Benjamin Place is a research chemist at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Ben received his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Oregon State University, where his research focused on the development of novel targeted and non-targeted analytical methods for emerging contaminants in the environment. He came to NIST in 2012 as a National Research Council (US) Postdoctoral Fellow, where he continued to research the broad applications of targeted and non-targeted analytical methods. Now at NIST as a researcher, Ben focuses on the metrological foundation of NTA, including the need for FAIR data and data tools to enable researchers and regulators to understand their NTA results. Recently, Ben completed a one-year temporary assignment at the US White House Office of Science and Technology Policy as the Assistant Director of Environmental Health, where he focused on the alignment of US federal policy and environmental science research.
